Bergen, Norway
In the heart of the the lovely city of Bergen, stands the iconic Hotel Norge by Scandic, a 130-year-old historical landmark which was recently renovated and reopened in June 2018. With three floors of restaurants, bars, and lounges, a fitness center, and 415 stylish rooms, Hotel Norge by Scandic can keep you busy and comfortable in frequently rainy but beautiful city of Bergen.
As soon as we entered the property, we were immediately transported into a posh space uniquely different from other hotels. Glossy black and white tiled walls set the tone, complimented by gold fixtures and bars all around. The stylish and modern Cafe Norge is on our right, with its plush pink and stone-colored seats worthy of Instagram post. On the left is a wooden staircase with dedicated seats for dining or enjoying a glass of wine. At the bottom of the staircase is a DJ booth, and on some nights, guests and locals can enjoy great atmosphere with good music.
Walking past the cafe, two escalators bring you up to the 3rd floor, where there is a giant sun that changes color throughout the day. Although we didn’t wait long for our check-in, there are plenty of comfy seats for you to lounge around. Across the check-in counter, there is a bar aptly called The Lobby, where you can order classic drinks or mixed cocktails with or without alcohol.
When we got to our room, we were pleasantly surprised to see natural light all around, thanks to the floor to ceiling windows available in each of the rooms. Our room was on the 9th floor, and has extra amenities such as a mini-bar with Nespresso machine, and sitting area with additional sofa bed. My favorite part is the balcony, with the view of Byparken, Lake Lungegardsvann, and Ulriken mountain. If it wasn’t winter time, I would be found sitting outside the whole time I’m in the property.
Breakfast time is probably my most favorite time of the day, especially when traveling and staying in lovely hotels. Hotel Norge by Scandic did not disappoint. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of options from usual continental breakfast to Norwegian food. Definitely one of the best buffet spread I’ve had.
One of the best reasons to stay in Hotel Norge by Scandic is it’s location. Located in Ole Bulls Square next to Byparken, it is a 2-minute walk to Lake Lungegaardsvannet, and a 12-minute walk to Bryggen, Bergen’s most famous waterfront. There are also plenty of other restaurants and shopping places within a block or two. There are plenty of museums closeby, and the tram stop which will take you to Central Bergen Train Station is just around the corner.
What sets Hotel Norge by Scandic is that they have a dedicated Lifestyle Concierge, who is willing to help customize your trip while you stay in the city. This service is free of charge. This was very helpful especially after finding out that a lot of places are closed on Sunday, which one of the 2 days we are in the city. Yngve provided us with weather outlook and recommended things to do and places to eat and try out during our trip.
Bergen may have plenty of choices when it comes to accommodations, but Hotel Norge by Scandic is definitely a standout. A historic hotel with Nordic design mixed with modern style and luxury, Hotel Norge by Scandic can offer you an unforgettable stay.
Special thanks to Hotel Norge by Scandic for providing us complimentary stay, meals, and activities. As always, all photos and opinions are my own.
