Santorini, Greece
I have been twice to Barcelona, Vienna, Budapest, Singapore and a lot of times to Paris, so when I found out Greece was open again to American travelers after the pandemic started, I thought why not go back to Santorini?! It had been 8 years since I last saw the beautiful famous sunset of this island, and since the first trip was a bit short and rushed, I jumped on the opportunity to visit Santorini again!
We flew from LA to New York to Athens to Santorini and to say we were tired is an understatement. We were picked up by a roomy black Mercedes Benz van and as we soon as stepped out, a smiling gentleman welcomed us and took our luggages down winding steps of Santorini all the way to the Cocoon Suites reception area. The whole way down, we couldn’t help but stare at the gorgeous Caldera view! Pristine white Cycladic architecture greeted us as Nana took our details down. We originally booked a Junior Suite and were asked if we wanted to upgrade to the Honeymoon Suite for the first night. Of course we said yes!
We climbed up few more steps to get to the Honeymoon Suite, one of the three suites on the top most floor of the hotel. Our private hot tub and outdoor seating area were right outside our room, which was very convenient. We noticed right away how modern and luxurious our cave suite is! I love how the earthy tones match the state of the art amenities such as the SMEG refrigerator and the Nespresso machine. They also have tablet where we can can request any help, as well as put in our orders for breakfast.
And boy breakfast was amazing! It came right on our preferred time, and it was set out in out sitting area right next to our own jacuzzi. Everything on the organic breakfast platter was fresh and great, and we couldn’t stop eating even when we were full. After breakfast, we decided to have a ‘rest’ day and just breathe and relax in our suite, as leaving it again seemed to be so much harder.
That afternoon we moved in to the lower floor Junior Suite, which was surprisingly roomier inside. It had the same charm as the Honeymoon Suite and the same great amenities. We also have our own jacuzzi and sitting area, right across the door of our suite. It was the same gorgeous view but different beautiful perspective. We felt we were so much closer to the water!
That evening we also had dinner at their restaurant, literally a few steps down from our door. The breathtaking view of the sunset helped set the ambiance for the candlelit-dinner. I had the boneless slow-cooked lamb, with smoked Santorini eggplant puree with tzatziki yogurt cream and potato confit paired with the most amazing locally produced red wine, no doubt the best meal I’ve had in the whole trip.
Sunsets and sunrises here beyond mesmerizing, coupled with the impeccable service making our stay truly unforgettable. It was definitely hard to leave Santorini, mainly because it was hard to leave Cocoon Suites.
