Cusco, Perú
During my two month stay in Peru, I have come to learn that there is a Plaza de Armas in almost all the towns in the country. Literally translated as Weapon’s Square or Parade Square, it is the name of the main center of town/city. I have seen the Plaza de Armas in Lima, Arequipa and Pisco, but the one in Cusco is by far my favorite of them all.
One of the best spots for people watching, the Plaza de Armas in Cusco is also the usual meeting spot, day or night. Being in Cusco for several weeks, I became familiar with which places have best herba buena lemonade, best massages, best view of the fountain or the square. My friends know which place to go dancing at night, depending on which day of the week we go out. Aside from Westernized local restaurants, there is also Starbucks or McDonald’s here.
It’s hard not to reminisce when I see a photo of this place. For me, it where friendships begun and where a lot of memories made.
