If you’ve read travel books or blog posts about Iceland, you’ll probably have heard of the Golden Circle. It is the most popular route and is included in almost all of the itineraries you can find (unless you only have less than a day) when you visit this country.
 

Some people go on tours but since we were driving on our own, we decided to save this for the latter part of our trip on our way back to Reykjavik. The three main stops on the route are Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir, a geyser from which the English word was derived from.

I will save you the boring details of facts among these attractions but one thing I wanted to emphasize is that to come early as the route is very popular. Since we were coming back to Reykjavik, we did the route in reverse. We started in Geysir area (where we stayed in a hotel a few steps away), then drove to Gullfoss – probably my most favorite waterfall in the world, then went to Thingvellir National Park. There are going to be tourists and lots of them. We visited in March when it was cold and I could just not imagine how it’ll be in summer.
