Roma, Italia

Rome had been on my bucket list for the longest time. I wanted to see the Colosseum, visit the Vatican and throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain. So when I had a week to spare after my French Riviera trip, I was more than happy to spend it in this beautiful city.

It was quite a drive from the airport to the city center and arriving at night after a long day of walking around in Nice, I was more than ready to shut my eyes until we get to the hotel but there was something about being in a new city that just gets me excited. I first saw a glimpse of Victor Emmanuel monument from afar and I was stunned at how massive it is. I saw it from the photos and read about it in my guide book but this monument is so beautiful at night.

Because I will be in this city for awhile, I planned on taking my time to just enjoy Rome. I joined tours to walk around the city, and did some on my own. There are a lot to see and I couldn’t imagine someone doing it for just a day or two. It is true that Rome is like an open museum, one historical monument, church, and square after another. I loved that the districts in central Rome possess a different feel from each other.

I stayed at Centro Historico, in Piazza di Montecitorio. It is right in the middle, is walkable from the Vatican, or Colosseo, or Villa Borghese or Trastevere. The walks are long and the Roman summer heat didn’t make it easier. But it is during these walks when you really see, feel and experience the Eternal City.

Love your pictures! I always love to hear what others say about Rome – yesterday I was taking my daughter to the park at Castel’SanAngelo and this girls said OOOOO this that building that looks like the Coliseum. =)

Thanks Madaline! I remember walking that bridge after my Vatican tour, then continuing on to my hotel in Piazza di Montecitorio in hot summer heat! Had a terrible headache and had to rest before walking around this gorgeous city! Check out my Colosseo visit here: http://bit.ly/1m6YlqO

When my bf and I went we only spent two days there, but I agree, not enough time! There’s a lot of things to see and a lot of places where you just want to stay and look. I miss the opportunity to just stand and look when you know the time is limited and there is still so much to see.

I think my one week wasn’t enough. Rome is overwhelmingly beautiful! Definitely in my come-back list!

Holy crap girl! These photos are INSANE! Tell me, do you use a wide angle lens for these shots? I’m in the market for one…and now I’m looking at people’s pictures extra close! P.s. I’ve always wanted to go to Rome. Always.

Thanks Amanda! Means a lot coming from someone who’s photography I admire! I was using my “travel lens” very light and versatile Nikon 18-55mm VR lens to complement my very heavy D7000. And you can see more Rome photos here: http://bit.ly/1m6YlqO and http://bit.ly/1nYRWJM and more to come!
